Is a birthday wishlist really necessary?
Saying what would make us happy often comes across as demanding. It is in fact the opposite: the people buying you a gift mostly want to avoid getting it wrong. A list takes the mental load of choosing off their shoulders, along with the fear of missing the mark, and spares everyone objects that will never be used.
The benefit is environmental as much as practical. A gift chosen from a list stands every chance of being used, kept and appreciated — and none of ending up in a drawer or being quietly resold a few weeks later.
